BACK ABOARD SCRIMSHAW

It's been 3 months since we saw our girl. She looked great, and she was snug and cozy for our first night aboard.
Happy man and his boat.
Welcome to the California Central Coast! Shorts are an unfamiliar winter attire in the Pacific Northwest, but we adapted quickly to California's mild winter weather. I have to admit, before reaching Scrimshaw, we stopped at our favorite watering hole, Brophy's, at the Santa Barbara Harbor. Been going there for nearly 4 decades! Oh My!
Just one martini.
And one cosmo, for moi.
It was one of those crystal clear winter days,
like the ones in which the Santa Ana winds wreak havoc.
Today was totally mellow.
One of our favorite strolls along the Pacific.
The sun sets, lighting up Santa Cruz Island.
We are hoping to anchor out in a few of our favorite spots on Santa Cruz Island this winter. I have been sailing and diving in the Channel Islands since I was 25 years old. It remains one of my favorite cruising grounds on the planet.
We celebrated Winter Solstice and 22 years of wedded bliss tonight with an outstanding Sunset in the same spot as the above  photo.
 Winter Solstice Sunset
These photos have not be touched up.
This is the real deal.
Familes gather for a spectacular sunset.
Day is done.
I just don't seem to be able to stop myself from capturing each delicious sunset. Every night I am faithfully outside with my iPhone as the sun goes down. There certainly are worse rituals.
Think this one is my favorite.
This is one a my favorite little tugs, I love the fresh blue and white paint. The couple live aboard, and build the boat 24 years ago. She's a beauty, especially with a pastel sky to the south.
If just a plain old sunset isn't enough to make your heart sing, there is a lovely bronze statue of an exotic mermaid playing a swordfish as a violin at the harbor entrance.
Ventura Harbor Entrance
One of our favorite spots to watch the day end.
There has been plenty of sunny days, but a couple of days there was a chill in the air, and we awoke to find the surrounding mountains covered in snow! Snow and palm trees! What a sight!
Crystal clear skies and snow covered mountains.
We moved the boat over to the Ventura Yacht Club agues dock. One of our favorite clubs to visit, with easy access to a marvelous beach with great views of Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands.
Sometimes, we don't even have to leave the dock for an exquisite sunset. Scrimshaw is tugging at her dock lines for open waters. So are we. Winter weather can be delightful and sunny, but if big winds and seas are coming down from the north, we wait. We would like more than a 24 hour window to move the boat south.
Yep. Despite the wonderful weather, we didn't escape the winter crud. A dose of antibiotics did the trick, and by New Years we were back in the pink, feeling great and very fortunate for our many blessings this year.
We watched the Seahawks play (lose to) the 49'ers at the Ventura Yacht Yacht. Nevertheless, we embraced the New Year - some are calling it the Roaring Twenties - with enthusiasm and are excited about Scrimshaw's journey to the Salish Sea in May. Good things to look forward to in the new year. We wish all of you, Good Health and Happy Family Life. And of course,
Fair Winds.
