Scrimshaw had a bottom job in Mexico, while we went to San Diego for a little R and R.
We visited friends, ate at our favorite restaurants, arranged doctor and dentist appointments, and of course, made SEVERAL trips to marine stores in preparation for our journey north. Scrimshaw should get better mileage with her squeaky clean bottom, which translates to more bang for the buck in the diesel department. It's a good thing with about 1,000 nautical miles to cover and increasing fuel prices starting at $4.00 a gallon. Fuel for boats is higher than it is for cars. Same stuff, but boat owners pay more. We carry 600 gallons of diesel, and cruise at 8+ knots using about 4-5 gallons per hour. Doing the math is the reason we searched for a Grand Banks with twin 135 Ford Lehman's which are well-respected for their work capacity and fuel efficiency.
After three days of Spa Treatment
Big Question: Will Sausalito remain on her stern for long?
What's next:We'll have to wait and see.
Back in our slip at Marina Coral.
These très amigos buffed and polished Scrimshaw's hull for 4 days.
Singing and laughing throughout their workday.
She never looked so dang good!
You can see your reflection in the gelcoat!
She looks good, but Darrell has another 2 to 3 coats of varnish to apply to the stern and rails. It's a never-ending job. I don't think we realized how big our dinghy is until we saw this picture. A fast dinghy will be important to explore new anchorages, as well as carrying us back and forth to shore for walks and frequent visits to cafes and bistros. We have fallen in love with Mexico all over again. We are dreaming of distant anchorages in the Sea of Cortez. Meanwhile, Sparky is happy to stay at Marina Coral with his buddy Juan Jose. They play every afternoon. Its just one of the Perks at Marina Coral.
Spark and Juan Jose
Spark's new love interest, Violet, from Lunacita.
Good thing they live close by us in Tahoe, so they can spend Mucho Tiempo together.
Double Rainbow over our dock just about says it all,
"We Love Marina Coral"!
She's a beauty and know you two will cruise for many more years aboard Scrimshaw. Looking forward to meeting up with you again - somewhere!
